Why Quran 2:62 Is General In Application While Quran 9:33 Is Time-specific?
Assalamualaikum
Al-Quran
Surah No. 62 – Ayah No. 2
Translation:
He it is Who has raised a Messenger among the gentiles’ from among themselves, who recites to them His Revelations, purifies them and teaches them the Book and the Wisdom, whereas before this they were indeed lost in manifest error.
This verse is usually used for claiming that the purpose of religion is “purification”. But the Ayah says that “He raised a Messenger among gentiles (ummiyin)”, so based on that context can’t it be said that it (purification) was for gentiles only? As it is said for this Ayah :
Al-Quran
Surah No. 9 – Ayah No. 33
Translation:
He it is Who has sent His Messenger with the guidance and the true religion that He may make it prevail over all religions, howsoever those who associate other with Allah in Hid divinity might detest it.
It is said that the context of this Ayah limits the “prevailing of religion” to polythiests only?
