  • Why Quran 2:62 Is General In Application While Quran 9:33 Is Time-specific?

    Assalamualaikum

    Al-Quran

    Surah No. 62 – Ayah No. 2

    Translation:

He it is Who has raised a Messenger among the gentiles’ from among themselves, who recites to them His Revelations, purifies them and teaches them the Book and the Wisdom, whereas before this they were indeed lost in manifest error.

This verse is usually used for claiming that the purpose of religion is “purification”. But the Ayah says that “He raised a Messenger among gentiles (ummiyin)”, so based on that context can’t it be said that it (purification) was for gentiles only? As it is said for this Ayah :

    Al-Quran

    Surah No. 9 – Ayah No. 33

    Translation:

He it is Who has sent His Messenger with the guidance and the true religion that He may make it prevail over all religions, howsoever those who associate other with Allah in Hid divinity might detest it.

It is said that the context of this Ayah limits the “prevailing of religion” to polythiests only?

The injunctions and instructions extend due to the cause or illat they are initiated for. To believe, to worship and to purify is the requirement of all human beings. The principle verse in this regard is 51: 56

Sorry, but couldn’t understand completely. Can get little details, please? How from that specification to generalisation?

To know and to worship God is the requirement of every human being. If God tells only one that He is one and what He likes for in man to be His good servant and how he can purify himself. We have to follow it too, as we require these too. The the nature of an injunction itself tells that it cannot be specific because its immediate addressees were specific. The whole Quran is specific with respect to its addressees who were the people living in Arabia. But the injunctions are not specific except for those whose specification is mentioned or their nature or their cause tells that they can’t be generalize. Like the doing Sadaqa before the meeting the prophet was an restrictions which were later uplifted. both imposition and removal is mentioned in the Quran. but to eradicate Shirk and Mushrikin from Arabia was a specific obligation and never required in all parts of the world. This is because of the sanctity of Makkah the center of Tawheed.
