In Surah Qayamah, Allah talks about how it is his duty to make the Quran clear and memorable for the prophet but then all of a sudden, this is said:

    كَلَّا بَلۡ تُحِبُّونَ ٱلۡعَاجِلَةَ﴿ ٢٠ ﴾

    • Dr. Mustafa Khattab:

But no! In fact, you love this fleeting world,

    Al-Qiyamah, Ayah 20

    How to understand this?

In my humble opinion, the translation of Dr Khattab falls short of establishing the full meaning, if you consider the context of the previous Ayah, Allah is saying that It is indeed upon us (i.e. on Allah) to explain the Quran to you, so the natural meaning of the 75:20 should be “No -but you-love the-hasty (and immediate understanding of the Quran)”, and 75:21 “And you leave-the delayed (i.e. slow, detailed and thoughtful understanding of the Quran).- The outlook-at that time (i.e. the moment when you receive the delayed and diligent understanding of the Quran)-(will be) radiant”.

This would be the meaning if you ponder and consider the words of the Quran with virgin eyes, Allah knows best.

Verses 16-19 are a digression from the main topic of Qiyamah with which this Surah started.

Since Quran is close to sermon like genre, therefore just like a live sermon, some digressions from main topic are made to address a real-time situation arising at that time. Secondly, since Itmam-e-hujjat is a secondary form of Qiyamah manifested in this world, and Prophet had this natural desire to fulfil this humongous responsibility as soon as possible, so it links with main topic of Qiyamah from this perspective as well. Right from verse 20, the topic has been reverted back to the primary topic of Surah i.e. the Qiyamah.
