Is Idle Talk Haram Or Makrooh
Hello there!
My question is that there is a Hadith that is mentioned.
Sahih Muslim 1715 a
Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) as saying:
Verily Allah likes three things for you and He disapproves three things for you. He is pleased with you that you worship Him and associate nor anything with Him, that you hold fast the rope of Allah, and be not scattered; and He disapproves for you irrelevant talk, persistent questioning ane the wasting of wealth.

So what is the explanation of this Hadith. I read somewhere that the word of Karahah, used here is not like that word of Dislike that is used by Fuqaha to place anything in the category of Makrooh. As this term was derived later for juristic application. But the word of Dislike here actually is about being Haram. So is just talking idly or like doing something which does not have any benefit nor harm. Like playing game for time pass. Is it Haram?

In general it could be considered as disliked, however, if it has any aspect of polytheism or immorality as per Quran verse 7:33 then it could also be considered as haram.

With that said, once we know that something is not liked by God then we should abstain from it regardless of whichever category it falls under.

@faisalharoon Yes sir, but what exactly is idle talk? Like if I play some video game that i like to sometimes enjoy or just play it generally without missing out anything fard, or for suppose to relax my mind out. Would that also be Haram or Makrooh, i wanted to understand what exactly is Idle Talk. Something with no benefit at all? And if something has even a little benefit then it comes out ot category Idle Talk?
