  • Doing An Act Of Worship To Receive Rewards In This World

    Hello there, i read yes somewhere that doing ibadah or action of worship, if it is done to only recieve reward from Allah in this world, this is like Riya, is it true? Like for example a person does charity for the purpose of Allah blesses him more sustenance, or someone reading surah waqiah only with intention that allah saves him from poverty etc

    Quran teaches us

    @irfan76 yes sir i understand but it wouldn’t be shirk like Riya right? I’m not talking about someone who ONLY and only asks for this world always. I’m talking about someone who at some instance does a worship act but for a worldly benefit from Allah, so just in that particular act he will receive nothing in hereafter, but it won’t be shirk or Riya, right sir?

    Like for example, a person suddenly sees a lion in a jungle and he suddenly makes Dua to Allah to protect him from lion. So in that particular Dua (worship act) he only wanted Allah to save him from lion etc, this wouldn’t be Riya, right sir?

    This has nothing to do with Riyakri. Make clear what is Riyakari. It is to please someone else other than God through an act which is meant to be done only for the pleasure of Allah. In your cited case, this is a desirable act of belief that the perosn believes that God can save him.

    @Irfan76 and sir in the above case i mentioned, this wouldn’t be in any way shirk as well right sir?

    Because in an article i saw this excerpt;

    “Whoever desires an expansion in his sustenance and age, should keep good relations with his kith and kin.” (Narrated by Bukhari and Muslim)

    If someone performs such deed merely for the worldly rewards, without the Hereafter rewards, he has fallen into a kind of shirk. But if he performs it, hoping for both rewards in this world and in the Hereafter, sincerely, this practice is considered alright, and the worldly rewards serve as an additional bounty for him because shari’a indeed has shown the existence of worldly rewards for such deeds. (Taken from “At Tamhid Li Syarh Kitabit Tauhid

    https://whatisquran.com/279-performing-deeds-for-hereafter-to-reach-worldly-benefits.html

    So sir it would be wrong to say what is written in this paragraph, that doing a particular worship deed for Allah only, but in which a person wants Allah to reward him in this world, and that is his mere intention at that particular instance of doing that particular worship deed (like example i gave above of lion).

    So this would be wrong what this article says, right sir?

    Asking for worldly rewards is having a belief in God. It has nothing to do with Riyakari. Again, Riyakari means to PLEASE someone else in a matter through which you are supposed to please God only. Asking for a worldly favour, which can be only in the world, like asking for a good job, it is again a demonstration of one’s belief in the bounty of God. it is reported from the prophet that if you need salt or lace of your shoe, ask it from God.
