    Hello there! Assalaam u alaykum.

My question is that there’s a verse of quran that is translated as

“The hypocrites fear lest a Soorah (chapter of the Quran) should be revealed about them, showing them what is in their hearts. Say: “(Go ahead and) mock! But certainly Allah will bring to light all that you fear.’

If you ask them (about this), they declare: ‘We were only talking idly and joking.’ Say: ‘Was it at Allah, and His Ayaat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) and His Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) that you were mocking?

Make no excuse; you have disbelieved after you had believed. If We pardon some of you, We will punish others amongst you because they were Mujrimoon (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.)”

    [al-Tawbah 9:64-66]

And then in an article of a famous Islamic website, this excerpt of is written

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said concerning these hypocrites who make fun of Islam:

This indicates that they did not themselves think that they had committed an act of kufr; rather they thought that that did not constitute kufr. So Allah explained that ridiculing Allah and His revelations and His Messenger constituted kufr and meant that the person had disbelieved after having believed. This indicates that they had faith, albeit weak, and they did this haraam action knowing that it was haraam, but they did not think that it constituted kufr. However it was kufr by means of which they became disbelievers, although they did not think that it was permissible.

End quote from Majmoo‘ al-Fataawa (7/273)

Here as it is said “This indicates that they did not themselves think that they had committed an act of kufr; rather they thought that that did not constitute kufr.”

But still we see that Allah said in the verse that you have committed Kufr after believing.

So my question is that we know that if someone did not know that doing something is wrong and we do it. Then it totally forgiven as we were ignorant. But if a person does a thing which is a sin, but did not know it’s gravity and he genuinely thought that doing this thing is a small sin, so automatically he was less sensitive towards it and he does it thinking that it’s a small sin, when in reality it was a Huge sin. So what if someone says that he won’t be punished to the extent of what he perceived (as a small sin) but he would be punished to the full reality of the sin (which is Huge sin), and they use this ayahs for explanation. So can you explain this issue? And also that can such concept be taken from this ayahs?

God is just. Accept genuine excuses. The person can put up his excuse to God and God will deal with Him accordingly.

@Irfan76 sir so we cannot fetch such concept from this ayah, right? And if someone does like that, how will we tell him and provide him evidence of how it’s wrong to take such concept from this ayah, and what this ayah actually mean and what can be taken from it?

God has told his principles of forgiveness, punishment, and concession explicitly in the Quran. Now, the case having intermingled situations and conditions are to be judged by God. and He will judge with this absoluete knowledge and justice.
