Hello there , Assalaam u alaykum.

My question is that we are often told that have hope only in Allah, and a Muslim should only have hope in Allah, so what about sometimes we hope regarding people. That for example sometimes we tell a friend to bring us a gift while returning from abroad and we expect/hope that they would bring it etc, or when we go to a friend for debt then we hope that he would lend money. And we say “mujhe umeed thi ke tum udhaar karoge toh iss Liye tumhare Haan ayan Hoon”. So is saying such phrases allowed? And please explain that is this sort of hope from people allowed?

A hope in someone, which can be a rival to God is shirk, otherwise not. We have hope in God to have good in His plans for us, in his mercy and blessings. Such hopes we do not associate with others and the hopes which we have in others, we do not ascribe to God. For example, we do not hope that God will not make mistake in diagnosing our ailment and will prescribe the correct medicine.
