    Backbiting And Its Recompense

    Does praising someone not in his presence is also backbiting? What is the repentance for backbiting? Is it correct that the person only seeks forgiveness from God and mend his ways for the future?

    Backbiting means speaking about the flaws of a person in his absence. Since it is one of the major sins and relate to Haqooq-ul-ibad category, therefore one should seek forgiveness from the recipient of Gheebat as well in addition to seeking forgiveness from Allah.
