This ia part of itmam-e-hujjat on Bani-Israil of that time. This is a list of their crimes and how they broke their covenants with Allah, one after another. Bani-Israil were a chosen nation of God for the rank of Shahdah on the modern world of that time and they carry their historical traditions with them, inlcuding this incident of the calf as well. Quran has used these incidents from their history to point out how many times they broke their covenant with Allah and they were humiliated in this very world every time they broke such covenant. And now, if they do not learn lesson from their history, they will face the same humiliation in this world if they adopt the same attitude w.r.t prophet Muhammad (SWS).
