What if religion exacerbates problems instead of solving them? Because religion is becoming very difficult to understand, at least for me. Does religion advise us to be steadfast in such a situation?

Religion wants you to not get confused, instead if you have become a conscious muslim, then all that religions wants from you is to perfom the following minimum in this world for success in the hereafter. There is no need to go into unnecessary details regarding religion, stick to the bare minimum and Insha’Allah you will find no problem at all.
