As per ale-imran-7, the mutashabih verses seem to be not the foundation of the book, whereas the muhkam verses are:
“It is He who has revealed to you this Book which has verses that are muḥkam also – they are the foundation of the Book – and some others [besides them] that are mutashābihāt as well.” (Ghamidi al-Bayan)
But Imam Islahi explains that Allah’s attributes are from the mutashabihat. So the verses which describes Allah’s attributes are not the foundation of the Qur’an?
Mohkam verses are those which are of the nature of directives because both their meaning and their manifestation (‘misdaq‘) are very clear. When the manifestation of a word is not clear, it becomes mutashabih because now we cannot know with certainty their real form and shape e.g. those verses which mention certain blessings and torments a person may encounter in the Hereafter, and these are stated through parables or similes. Similarly, such verses state the attributes and actions of God or mention something which is beyond the grasp of our knowledge and observation like God blowing His spirit into Adam, birth of Jesus (sws) without a father or the various places and circumstances one may encounter in Paradise and Hell. All things for which words have not yet been invented can only be stated through parables and similes. The facts of an unknown world are stated through these very means in the literature of all languages of the world.
As for the attributes of God, we know those attributes and their meanings, but we have no way of knowing how those attributes actually work or how they manifest themselves in real life when they transform into actions.

JazakAllah khair Umer Qureshi Saab. I have gone through these lectures you have shared and know the understanding of the Farahi scholars regarding this. My question is specifically about the expression “they are the foundation of the Book”. It seems like ale-imran-7 is referring to the muhkam verses as the foundation of the book. Can we conclude from this that mutashabihat verses are not foundations of the book? To be more specific, Allah is categorizing the verses into two types, not the meaning of the verses.
