  • Were The Wives Of The Holy Prophet (sav) Prohibited From Marrying Another Man?

    Asselamu aleykum,

I’ve heard that Ummahatul Mu’minin (rta) of our Holy Prophet (sav) were prohibited from marrying another man for their entire life. However, The Shariah rule is that, if a woman is divorced from her previous husband, she can marry another person. Is this true, if so why? And then how the permission was granted to them if they want to leave the prophet (sav), when they were prohibited from marrying another man for their entire life?

I’ve also heard from dear Ustad-e-Mohtaram (ha) acknowledging this in an old session.

    Kindly clarify.

This is the directive given in the holy Quran Surah Ahzab. 33: 53

There is whole set of protocols for the wives of the holy prophet in this Surah, you are suggested to have a look at them.

Before introducing these protocols, God gave the option to the wives that if they opted to leave the prophet, they could, but if they opted for the prophet, they had to follow the protocols. 33: 28

These protocols were given against the toxic propaganda and scandalization of the prophet’s house.

But, if so then why didn’t any wife of our prophet (sav) has been reported to remarried after the death of of the prophet (sav)? Did they not remarried because, of their devoutness to the Prophet (sav)?

As it is stated above, the wives were given the option to leave the prophet or follow the protocol enunciated for them which included not marrying after the Prophet died. So they did not marry after him.
