The principle in the matters of ibadah is that of usar (undue difficulty). If exams create such a difficulty for someone then they can make up the fasts at a later time. Determination of usar has to be made by the individual himself. As long as someone makes the determination with sincerity then even if they make a mistake, it can be hoped that God will forgive their mistake.
