Quran 2:155 – Specific To Sahaba Only?
Ghamidi sb has pointed out that the tests mentioned in this Ayat are specific to only the Companions of the Prophet SWS.
وَلَنَبۡلُوَنَّكُم بِشَیۡءࣲ مِّنَ ٱلۡخَوۡفِ وَٱلۡجُوعِ وَنَقۡصࣲ مِّنَ ٱلۡأَمۡوَ ٰلِ وَٱلۡأَنفُسِ وَٱلثَّمَرَ ٰتِۗ وَبَشِّرِ ٱلصَّـٰبِرِینَ﴿ ١٥٥ ﴾
• Dr. Mustafa Khattab:
We will certainly test you with a touch of fear and famine and loss of property, life, and crops. Give good news to those who patiently endure—

But these tests are also faced by almost everyone in life, so does this Ayah addresses us too or just the companions at that time and similarly is the Basharat for us too or only the companions?

When read from verse 151, it becomes clear that these verses are Primarily addressed to companions of the Prophet (sws) and verse 155 is not alone, we also find other verses describing the same principle for the companions of the Prophet (sws) i.e. Quran 29:2-3 and Quran 3:29. While everyone is going through ibtila of some kind in this world but it is not certain which kind of test one will be put through, but for the companions of the Prophet (sws), a special form of Ibtila was put in place where some specfic forms of the test were made necessary for their testing. It was also philosophically necessary since the companions were to be given the kingdom of this world as a result of itmam-e-hujjat, so it was made necessary to test their faith through such tests. However, the gladtidings or rewards can also apply to other muslims who show patience whle going through their ibtila, but their (i.e.the Sahaba) gladtidings were according to their test ours will be according to our test.
