    Asselamu aleykum,

Ustad-e-Mohtaram (ha) said that Battle of Karbala was an political matter in his eyes. So, Did ever Holy Prophet (sav) predicted the martyrdom of Imam Husayn (rta) or not? (According to Ustad-e-Mohtaram)

I have heard many times that Prophet (sav) used to be sad, due to that.

Also please clarify the fast of 9th and 10th Muharram, Thanks.

There is no authentic report from the prophet predicting the martyrdom of the Hazrat Husain.

The fast of 10 Muharram was a Nafal fast which the prophet told his companions to keep. Ghamidi saheb writes in his book Meezan:

The Fast of ‘Ashur (10th of Muharram)

“Ahadith mention the blessings of this fast. The Prophet (sws) generally kept this fast and before the fasts of Ramadan were made incumbent, he would necessarily keep it and would urge and direct people to keep it and would be vigilant on them in this regard. According to history, one of the reasons for which this fast was kept was that the Quraysh used to keep it and another reason recorded is that the Jews would keep it. When the Prophet (sws) asked the Jews, they replied: “This day has great significance for us; the Almighty liberated Moses (sws) and his people on this day and drowned the Pharaoh and his people in the sea; it is to express gratitude to the Almighty that Moses (sws) fasted on that day.” At this, the Prophet (sws) said: “We have deeper relations with Moses (sws) than you.” Consequently, he fasted on this day and also asked people to fast.” (Objectives of Fast)

It was narrated from Abdullah bin Nujayy from his father that He travelled with ‘Ali (رضي الله عنه) – he was the one who carried his vessel for wudoo’. When he reached Neenawa on his way to Siffeen, ‘Ali (رضي الله عنه) called out Be patient, Abu Abdullah; be patient, Abu ‘Abdullah, on the banks of the Euphrates. I said: what did he say? He said: I entered upon the Prophet (ﷺ) one day and his eyes were flowing with tears. I said: O Prophet (ﷺ) of Allah, has someone upset you? Why are your eyes flowing with tears? He said No, but Jibreel left me a while ago. He told me that al-Husain would be killed on the banks of the Euphrates, And he said Would you like to smell his dust (the dust of the land where he will fall)? I said: Yes. He stretched out his hand and picked up a handful of dust and gave it to me, and I could not help but weep. (Musnad Ahmad 648)

This tradition is recorded in Musnad Ahmad. Is that inauthentic?

    It is not authentic.

    «مسند أحمد» (2/ 78 ط الرسالة):

«(1) إسناده ضعيف كالذي قبله. وأخرجه البزار (884)، وأبو يعلى (363)، والطبراني (2811) من طريق محمد بن عبيد، بهذا الإسناد»
