“4:171 O People of the Scripture, do not commit excess in your religion or say about Allah except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, was but a messenger of Allah and His word which He directed to Mary and a soul [created at a command] from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers. And do not say, “Three”; desist – it is better for you. Indeed, Allah is but one God. Exalted is He above having a son. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And sufficient is Allah as Disposer of affairs.”
The Mushrikeen referred to in Quran are pagan Arabs.

In fact, they considered God as a partner and considered others as deserving of worship and obedience. The Qur’an says about Jewish and Christian polytheism: TAWBAH /31 “Take their loved ones and their monks as lords from God and the Messiah, the son of Mary. (Jews and Christians) made their scholars and monks idols before God, and (also) Christ the son of Mary While they had no command except God alone They should worship the One who has no god but Him, He is pure than what they associate with Him.”

However, Trinitarian Christians insist that God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit share the same single essence, hence their belief is monotheistic. We can only discuss their misconception with them, point out their error, and discuss why their concept is polytheistic, however, we do not call them kafir or mushrik.
