It is said that when a person has good Allah increases his good and when he has bad Allah increases his bad in him now how does then people get guided to the right path like hazrat umer before accepting Islam went out of his home to nauzubillah kill the prophet but himself ended up accepting Islam, why Allah didn’t increased the bad in him. And then if guidance is based merely on actions of people then why we should pray for guidance of others? When there is no benefit of it.

God has guided men through their conscience and the Quran and the example of the prophet. There is a constant conflict of good and bad in them which may lead them to good or bad according to their choices and free will. They switch from good to bad or bad to good according to their choices. When one repents to come to good, he is welcomed, and when someone leaves the good path due to some temptation, he is allowed to go. However, when someone keeps doing good deeds God helps him and when someone is bent on doing bad deeds and pays a deaf ear to his conscience and God’s warnings, God seals his heart, eventually, and lets him go the path he chooses. There is no coercion in this matter.

Okay but what will kind of role our prayers would play for someone’s guidance?

Prayer indicates that man has a tendency to seek guidance, if he is true in his prayer and seeking of guidance and his actions do not contradict his intention, God provides his guidance. Soulless prayers avails one nothing.

No, I meant if we pray for someone’s guidance how would it work because there coming towards guidance depends upon there actions but if we pray for them how would it benefit them?

Such a prayer is in fact a request. If the request meets the merit: that the person himself wants to come to guidance, then it works otherwise not. However, it shows the good in you.

So there’s no benefit of praying for someone’s guidance?

But hazrat Muhammad s.a.w also prayed for hazrat umer R.A and he was guided afterwards

There is no such rule that a person turns around without his will. The principle stance of God is given cearly:

      ﴿إِنَّكَ لَا تَهْدِي مَنْ أَحْبَبْتَ وَلَٰكِنَّ اللَّهَ يَهْدِي مَن يَشَاءُ ۚ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِالْمُهْتَدِينَ﴾

      [ القصص: 56]

The prophet’s prayer, as it is reported, if authentic, was for Abu Jahal and Umar that any of them embrace Islam. Umar embraced Islam but not Abu Jahal.

The prophet wished for every one of his people to accept the truth, but a good many of them declined.
