Did Hazrat Ali (rta) And Ameer Muawiyah (rta) Forgave Each Other?
Posted by Muhammad Sami Uddin on November 18, 2023 at 11:55 amAsselamu aleykum,
Kindly do not recommend me to watch the series of Ustad-e-Mohtaram (ha) on the disagreement between the two companions. I need to take time for watching that completely.
I have some queries;
Did Hazrat Ali (rta) and Hazrat Ameer Muawiyah (rta), later became friends of each-other, by forgiving each other? Because, on the other hand, I have also heard that Hazrat Ali (rta) used to cry outside the city of Kufa, and pray Kunoot-e-Nazila to Hazrat Ameer Muawiyah (rta), Hazrat Amr ibn al-Aas (rta), etc.
And are the events of Hazrat Muawiyah (rta) replying to Caesar of Rome and Hazrat Ali (rta) and Ameer Muawiyah (rta) having husn-e-zan for each other in their hearts, true? And last of all, are the incidents mentioned in the pictures I provided, true?

Scholar November 21, 2023 at 5:37 amThere was a ceasefire between them in 40 H. But Hazrat Ali embraced martyrdom soon after this by the hands of Khawarij.
There is mention of Hazrat Muwawish used to praise Hazrat Ali for his good qualities after his death.
There are some other reports too that Hazrat Ali advised his people to be at peace with Muawiah and accept him their leader.
This is what we have. God knows the better.

Member November 21, 2023 at 8:31 amBut, Engineer Sb. (ha) have told in one of his sessions, that Hazrat Ali (rta) used to cry outside the city of Kufa, watching the ummah being hostile towards each other. Is this true? (asking this because, like Ustad-e-Mohtaram (ha), he don’t research on the authenticity of hadiths and traditions, in that way) But, this incident is also regarded as authentic by Shia Muslims.
And, also he said that Hadhrat Ali (rta) used to send Kunoot-e-Nazila to Hadhrat Muawiyah (rta), Hadhrat Amr ibn al-Aas (rta), etc, in the prayers of Fajr and Isha.
Please watch this video (from 03:55 to 05:05)

Scholar November 21, 2023 at 11:16 pmOne should be aware of the fact that Rawayat or Khabr e wahid are not considered authentic and reliable at their face value. Especially when these belong to political matters, they are prone to be propaganda, the same we find in today’s political disputes.
It is but the probability that may or may not decide whether a matter would be true or not, but one cannot be sure of it. Hazrat Ali might have done all this what is quoted. It is not improbable. It is quite understandable that Hazrat Ali regretted or felt sad for what was going on and he might have sought God’s help against the odds he was facing.
However, it is not determined the case in favor of him or his opponents.

Member November 22, 2023 at 12:47 amAll right, sir. But, If Ameer Muawiyah (rta) used to praise Hadhrat Ali (rta) for his good qualities. Then why he used to Sabb (criticize) on Hadhrat Ali (rta)? I know that (According to Ustad-e-Mohtaram, ha), Sabb does not refers to abusing words, but, rather criticizing. But, Was that act of Ameer-e-Shaam Hadhrat Muawiyah (rta) right? After all, Hadhrat Ali (rta) was the member of Ahl al-Bayt (the family of Prophet, sav).
What is your opinion on that? Thanks.

Quran has taught us to raise ourselves from this kind of approach. Quran tells that the son and wife of prophet Noah, the wife of Lot, the father of Abraham, were their Ahl e Bait, but this relationship availed them no benefit. They all went to hell. Rather, such closeness to a prophet, raises the level of responsibility and accountability. The wives of the prophet, who were the actual Ahl e Bait, were told that for their good deeds they would have double reward, and for their bad deed they would receive double punishment.

Scholar November 23, 2023 at 9:18 pmHe did not curse Ali. He criticized him obviously, for the political preferences he made for which Hazrat Hassan too objected to his father Ali. It is in fact the Kufis who cursed their opponents and this is still on. Hazrat Muawiah is known for his forbearance and tolerance. There is not a single curse quoted from him in any book of history. This is proof that the fiction of the cursing of Muawiah on Ali has no ground.

Member November 24, 2023 at 8:05 amIf you do not agree to it (at least) say: May Allah curse Abu Turab. Sahl said: There was no name dearer to Ali than Abu Turab (for it was given to him by the Prophet himself) and he felt delighted when he was called by this name. He (the governor) said to him, Narrate to us the story of his being named as Abu Turab. He said: Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) came to the house of Fatima and he did not find Ali in the house; whereupon he said: Where is your uncle’s son? She said: (There cropped up something) between me and him which had annoyed him with me. He went out and did not rest here. Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) asked a person to find out where he was. He came and said: Allah’s Messenger, he is sleeping in the mosque. Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) came to him and found him lying in the mosque and saw that his mantle had slipped from his back and his back was covered with dust and Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) began to wipe it away from him (from the body of Hadrat `Ali) saying: Get up, covered with dust (Abu Turab); get up, covered with dust.
There are the clear words of “la’anallahi abaturab” in this tradition. And it has been narrated with an authentic chain. Even, İmam Dhahabi (ra) considered it authentic.
I have recently started watching the series of Ustad-e-Mohtaram (ha) on the rivalry between the two companions. But, even if we reject these traditions (and others such as, Bukhari 2812). There are still some historical facts that, make Amir Muawiyah (rta) dubious. Such as, the death of Hujr ibn Adı (ra), the regret of Abdullah ibn Umar (rta) over not supporting Hazrat Ali (rta), the sorrow of Muawiyah II (ra) over the martyrdom of Imam Husayn (rta) and the murder of his teacher by Umayyads, the martyrdom of the brothers of Hazrat Aisha (rta), etc. The history books (not akhbar e ahad) even says that the cursing of Hazrat Ali (rta) continued until the time of Umar b. Abd-al Aziz (ra), who abandoned this practice of Umayyads. Even the father of Hazrat Muawiyah (rta), Abu Sufyan (rta) is reported to have opposed Hazrat Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (rta). Just, because, he was from the poor tribe of Quraysh. To which Hazrat Ali (rta) scolded him, even though Hazrat Ali (rta) himself, did not accepted the caliphate of Hazrat Abu Bakr (rta) at first. The thing which makes it more dubious is that, why there is no traditions supporting Hazrat Muawiyah (ra)? Why would people would only make traditions for Hazrat Ali (rta)?
What is your opinion on that tradition sir? Thanks.

So, it is better to watch the series first and then come up with the questions.
