Is The Money Earned From Haram Way Also Haram In Itself?
Posted by Mohammad Ali Soomro on December 5, 2023 at 11:43 pmMy question is that if someone earns Money from Haram means which does not come under violation of huqooq ül ibad like selling alcohol pork, then is act of earning this money is only Haram or if someone ceases to earn anymore but the money accumulated is there, is using this money also Haram act? Taking any benefit from this money is also Haram? and in which category of Haram it belongs to?

Member December 13, 2023 at 12:01 pm@Irfan76 there are several questions regarding this concept sir
1- A person you used to earn money from Haram things but that which didn’t involve usurpation of other’s money. like the example mentioned above. if the person truly repents from that life of earning Haram. would the money earned be allowable to use? as the money became Haram because of his Haram act. but with sincere tawbah Allah forgives the mistake, so intellectually doesn’t the money be allowable to use as well, as this money also doesn’t belong to someone else as well?
2 – Does this apply to things which can be termed wealth? thing which can be used to give benefit to others. like assets (car, house), money, from which benefit is also taken and they can be sold or given as well. or does it apply to other non wealth things too? like for example driving license (some officer made a demand that he’ll make driving license if he’s given a gift of whisky. a person proceeds with it and got license, will he be sinful everytime he is stopped by police to show his license and he presents that license to clear his investigation, ie taking benefit from that licence), or for example achieving someone’s friendship by doing Haram (a person who pleased someone by doing a Haram act. this pleasing started their friendship, so after tawbah, is the man required to give up the friendship with him).
3 – if someone gets a car by doing something Haram (not usurpation of someone’s right) for example, the money he earned by giving services of taxi using this car, would the money earned by these services be Haram as well?
4 – Keeping the example number 3 in mind, if that person sells the car and with that money buys more smaller assets. and with those assets he traded some more things. so each and every thing he got further in this chain, would be Haram for him to use because at each step he used something that was Haram on him to use to get something else ( ie at each step where he received a thing, he gave a thing in return which was Haram on him to give). But if that person didn’t know that the use of this car was also Haram on him or taking benefit on this car was Haram for him. this would mean that while selling the car he didn’t deliberately disobey Allah’s command (as he was not aware of it) and he got some money in return, and the chain continued. but the things he has now wouldn’t be Haram for him right? because he didn’t get those things by deliberate violation of Allah’s command. he got those things by using the money, which he got from selling car, while selling car he didn’t disobey Allah. (analogously he would be at the same place as like a person who while doing business of selling dead meat, wasn’t aware that selling dead meat is a sin, so this thing didn’t render his earned money Haram, if he stops selling it as soon as he realizes)

Member December 13, 2023 at 11:47 pm@Irfan76 sir if someone does halal job for a month and earns money through it. but the transport car he used to reach his office for whole month was Haram for him. Will his earning be Haram, as money earned was from doing job but to reach job site the man used a Haram car. ie the earning has a link with transportation from Haram car?

Member January 8, 2024 at 11:31 pm@Irfan76 sir when it is said that anything that is caused by Haram is Haram to use. is this principle only used to some tangible asset or it’s in all and all dimensions.
for example, if a person sells pork and earns money. with this money he goes to see a cinema to watch a movie. (his using money to watch movie was Haram). after watching movie he has flash backs and memories of the movie scenes. he sometimes thinks about the scenes of movie from his memory and enjoys those memory or laughs over the memory of those comedy scenes. will his this act (enjoying the memory of those scenes) be Haram to do as well? because the memory of those things came from watching movie which was Haram for him to watch because of the payment of it through Haram money. so would this rule be applicable in his imagination as well? (he using his memory imagination to get a benefit of making himself feel joyous)
Ps. the scenes in themselves do not have any Haram action like porn or shirk or anything bad. they are normal comedy scenes

Member January 8, 2024 at 11:43 pm@Irfan76 sir I understand that they cannot be undone. but it wouldn’t be Haram if a person deliberately uses this memory to make himself joyous? similarly if a person tries to remmeber the scenes in order to write a novel based on similar story. his writing of that novel with deliberate thinking of that memory would be halal, and it would be halal to use it to entertain others and earn money over it etc?

Member January 17, 2024 at 3:46 am@Irfan76 sir does this thing apply to feelings for people?
for example, Ali wanted to become Azhar’s friend. and so he wanted to start friendship by initiating feelings of attachment inside Azhar’s mind with him by giving Azhar a gift. Ali decided to gift him an item which was Haram to give but Ali wasn’t aware of the prohibition. The gift given to Azhar. made Azhar realized that Ali gave him a gift which made Azhar develop a love and attachment feeling inside him for Ali. and they became friends, Ali used to bring him the same item for gift many times and slowly slowly the friendship developed stronger. after some months suddenly Ali realized that the first act he did to initiate the feelings in Azhar’s mind was Haram (I.e gifting that item). and only because of that act did Azhar started to develop feelings for him. later he had used this initial feeling in Azhar’s mind to accept more gifts and outings he planned with Azhar, which made him develop more feelings. (ie. if the initial feeling of love was not present then Azhar would have not accepted those outings plan with him). And also he used to gift him the same Haram item for gifts again and again.
now after realizing the whole scenario, if he decides to continue relation with him would it be Haram? for example if he says Azhar to go on a vacation with him. Azhar would not go on a vacation with some stranger but only with someone with whom he has love and attachment with. so Ali knows that if he asks Azhar to go on vacation with him, the feelings in Azhar’s mind would play a vital role in going with him resulting in them both enjoying this trip., will it be halal for Ali to ask for this?
one may say that since not all feelings of love are developed from Haram, some are from halal too. I would still ask that if for suppose all feelings developed were from Haram actions, would it be still Haram to use these feelings to get more things done and have good relation?

Scholar January 17, 2024 at 9:35 pmFeeling go independent with time. If one stops giving gifts even then the feelings stay, by and large, the same. Therefore, earning one’s feelings is not like taking benefit from a thing of haram. You cannot undo the feelings. So one can continue the association.

Member January 17, 2024 at 11:11 pm@Irfan76 sir same would be for knowledge that a person gained for example from a stolen book or through a teacher upon doing something Haram. his using of that knowledge to benefit himself won’t be Haram in itself. and if with this knowledge he does some service to someone and charges money then the money won’t be Haram as well. so both the action of using that knowledge for personal benefit, and for service to other for money. both of these actions are totally Halal right sir?
