Maulana Waheed Uddin Khan And The Shariah Law
Assalamualaikum!
Having listen to his some Q/A sessions and an audio of his writing piece, Maulana Waheed Uddin Khan seems not to be in opposition of secularism. Infact he seems very appreciative of this development in the political system.
How would he then have applied Shariah law, specifically the Shariah punishments, through the legal system?
Is it even possible to do so?

I don’t know what his opinion is. However it is incumbent on the Muslims to adopt shariah law for their collective matters only. For non Muslims they can adopt securalism but even securalism has to let Muslims adopt their shariah law for their collective matters.

But secularism is all about no distinction in religious affairs (including the divide between Muslims and Non Muslims), in the matters of the state.
It necessarily implies that the legal system will carry no laws that discriminate too.
Can the Shariah laws be out into practice in a secular state, especially given the fact that these punishments are extremely harsh?
There’s a concept of dual legal system. Maybe that could work?

If the government is in the hands of the Muslims they have to adopt the shariah law. There is no room for securalism . But if the government is in run the non Muslims and they adopt securalism even they they are supposed to allow Muslims to follow their shariah in their religious affairs. This can be a dual system.
