What are the conditions for something to be an “ahad” / promise. What if while making such a promise the person didn’t know it will become very difficult for him to fulfil it? What should be done in that case? Will it still be wrong if the promise is broken due to some difficulty and then asked the other party to forgive?

Also, what about promises in which no party will get harmed if the promise was not fulfilled? For example a relative asking you to visit them and you promise them, only to know afterwards that you made a mistake by making that promise as it is too difficult now

The promises are meant to kept. However, when a promise is too hard to fulfil one can inform the other party with an excuse.

Take the example of oath. It can be broken when necessary and one is asked to atone it with the prescribed kaffara.
