My husband told me that they get official permission through civil servants in customs to import industrial machinery (which has a 10% duty) under the label of agricultural machinery (which has tax exemption and only 0.5 % duty), civil servants grant these permissions upon receiving expensive gifts. I said that’s bribe and farud with the government. He says 4 competitors are already granted permission through this way and this is the culture of business in Pakistan and otherwise u cant survive in Business. Qcc to his logic all competitors got their euipments imported at 0.5% so its fair for him to use the same means. I just wanna ask .. is this riz halal for me and my kids? Is he right or am I right? How do I convince him otherwise?

It is not fair or halal for him to do just because others do the same. This behaviour includes lying, evading tax obligation, and bribing. Moreover, it is both a crime and sin. In contrast, the business itself is halal, and the profit he gains is halal too. He should correct the wrongs, make amends and ask for forgiveness from God.
