  • Why Perfume Is Prohibited For Women? Isn'T This A Gender Discrimination ?

There’s an authentic hadith with too harsh words about women who apply perfume. It is as follows:

It was narrated that Al-Ash’ari said: The Messenger of Allah [SAW] said: ‘Any woman who puts on perfume then passes by people so that they can smell her fragrance then she is an adulteress.’

    Sunan Nisai, hadith no: 5149

A halal thing becomes haram only when there is something objectionable in it. it is about the strong perfume to allure men’s attention, and not about some ordinary perfume for good smell.

Women can apply perfume to overcome body odour but it should not be a strong perfume which Prophet (sws) forbade to be worn outside and this is in accordance with the directive of the Quran 24:31 where women are asked to not adopt gestures which expose their hidden embellishments/adornments.
