    Merging Of Prayers

    Assalamo Alaikum.

    I want to ask about the merging of prayers. There are clear, authentic and unambiguous narrations in Bukhari and Muslim mentioning that Prophet merged prayers without any reason and upon enquiring, the sahabis said that, it was done to ease the matters for ummah. Kindly comment why we should not merge the prayers regularly like Shias do?

    The Quran clearly states that prayers must be performed at their designated times, and the allowance for combining prayers is only granted in cases of necessity or compulsion. The Holy Prophet would not have gone against this Quranic directive. What a companion may have observed and reported could be subject to error. The Prophet never permitted the combining of prayers without a valid reason.
