Sunan Abu Dawud#3664 – Religious Knowledge For Worldly Gains
Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Whoever seeks knowledge that should be sought for the sake of Allah Almighty, but only to gain some worldly benefit, he will never know the fragrance Paradise on the Day of Resurrection.”
Source: Sunan Abī Dāwūd 3664Does this mean only learning about islam is allowed? Not any other knowledge?
For example if one learns about sketching all his life, it will be considered wrong?

This prohibition only applies to the religious knowldge i.e. the primary reason to acquire such knowledge should not be to attain worldly gains. For example, one should not learn Quran with the primary purpose of worldly gain, instead the primary reason should be attain the pleasure of God and success in the hereafter because of that.
.دنیاوی علوم دنیاوی مقاصد کے لئے حاصل کرنا جائز ہے، بشرطیکہ ان کی ممانعت کسی شرعی دلیل سے ثابت نہ ہو
دنیوی علوم اس غرض سے حاصل کرنا کہ ان کے ذریعے سے رزق حلال کمایا جائے، اس وعید میں شامل نہیں۔
اس حدیث میں ممانعت سے اس طرف اشارہ ہے کہ امت میں بعض ایسے بدنصیب لوگ ہوں گے جو دنیا حاصل کرنے کے لئے دینی علوم پڑھیں گے۔
دینی علم حاصل کرتے وقت یہ نیت نہیں ہونی چاہیے کہ اس سے دنیوی فوائد حاصل ہوں گے۔
دنیا کمانے کے لیے دینی علم سیکھنے سے اس لیے منع کیا گیا کہ ایسا شخص دنیا کے لالچ میں غلط مسائل بیان کرتا ہے تاکہ لوگ اس سے خوش ہو کر اس کی خدمت کرتے رہیں۔
اس طرح وہ ہدایت کے بجائے گمراہی پھیلانے والا بن جاتا ہے۔
