“And for their saying, “We have killed the
Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah.” In fact, they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him, but it appeared to them as if they did. Indeed, those who differ about him are in doubt about it. They have no knowledge of it, except the following of assumptions. Certainly, they did not kill him.” (Surah Nisa: 157)

My questions is that in this verse, who exactly are the ‘them’ in the statement, ‘it appeared to them’.

Are they the Jews only? If so why did most early Christians also believe that Jesus Christ (pbuh) was crucified?

Crucifixion is a classic example of how the lies manufactured by earlier generations are perpetuated indefinitely through “tawatur” in all religions. Not surprisingly, it is also the favorite instrument of Sunni and Shia Muslims when it comes to their fairytales and corrupt beliefs, all based on “tawatur”.

There is no evidence, neither in Gospels nor in the Roman records that Jesus was crucified. Please refer to the PhD dissertation of Gunnar Samuelsson, who argues that nothing like cross and nails were even used in Roman Empire at that time for punishments:

Quran negates this idea unequivocally, confirming that it is a lie invented by early Christianity, and the later generations continue to be duped by this lie.
