In addition to the prayer for your Grandmother:
– one can fulfil any will/bequest for a good deed she made because this becomes a saqda-i-jariya for her. Like in this case, her jewelry to be given to an orphanage.
– Doing the good deeds that she used to ask/preach her relatives to do, this also becomes a source of constant reward for her.
– If she had a debt, it should be paid.
– If she used to do any special charity to any specific institution or to a particular person or used to do general charity to any needy and helpless individual, that charity can be done on their behalf.
– Although reciting Quran for the dead has no logical basis since it is revealed for the alive to live their life according to the will of God. But since reward from reciting Quran is a secondary aspect of it when done with proper understanding and the deceased had shown her intention or will to recite it for them, so if someone wants to do that at an individual level, then they can. But keep in mind that collective gatherings of Quran recitation for the dead are a Biddah and should be avoided at any cost.
Also note that the hight level of interest and enthusiasm in Esaal-e-Sawab that we see in the Muslims of Indo-Pak subcontinent today is not something found in the Prophet’s (SWS) time. This is primarily because all such deeds of Esaal-e-Sawab, if accepted, could only complement the good deeds of the deceased if he/she qualifies for Jannah on the basis of faith and good deeds they showed while they were alive in this world; which was the real test for which they were sent in this world.
