    My q is ;

    My class fellow has a dog, whenever I visit him, his dog greets me and ofcourse they do it by jumping on you, so

    the dog touches my trousers , jacket etc etc.

    And even licks sometimes my hands as a gesture of friendlyness.

    So are my clothes then considered impure by this to go to mosque and pray salah?

    Because I heard there is an hadith saying that a dog’s saliva is impure.

    But then there is a verse in Quran suggesting that if your pet dogs hunt for you , that food becomes then halal. Surely these dogs will be biting and touching the killed animal with saliva and tongue. How is then that considered halal ?

    Kindly shed some light upon this matter.

    Jazakumullah khair.

      I read the discussion, but it is still not clear to me, is the saliva najas or not?

      Because there is another hadith where it is explained of dogs licks your bowl or something u have to wash it many times to make it pure.

      Kindly if u can elaborate on this!

      Why is I so when Quran is very clear in that hunting verse but the hadiths are saying something else and most scholars giving the answer it’s najas?

      Being Najas for Salah and being Najas for eating / drinking are two separate matters.

      A dog’s saliva touching the clothes does not effect one’s wudu and neither does it render one’s Salah invalid. There is no religious injunction which points to this fact. Therefore, it is not Najas for Salah.

      When it comes to eating / drinking, we generally do not prefer meal where saliva of another person or animal has mixed. We prefer to wash such bowls and utensils. The same was expressed in those Ahadith pointing to washing of such bowls. This becomes a more serious concern specially if the dog is not domesticated.

      Scholars who consider the saliva of dog najas do so on the basis of the same ahadith. We interpret those ahadith differently.
