    If we can’t call some kafir just because prophet is not among us..how did Hazrat Abu baker fight against munkir zakat when they had the argument that until prophet was among us we used to pay, since he is not longer available we are not supposed to pay it….

    Could not their taweel be accepted as it seems they misunderstood the concept of zakat and restricted it to the life of prophet Muhammad…

    How could someone judge their intentions and declare them kafir…

    Islam has established it a right of the state to collect Zakat from its Muslim citizens, therefore, a state has all the right to use its authority over its citizens to collect Zakat from them, whether through use of force or otherwise.

    In addition to that, for the direct addressees of Quran, acceptance of Islam, offering of Salah and Paying of Zakat were made necessary conditions for the rejectors (munkireen/kuffar) of that time in order to be left alive, after itmam-e-hujjah was done on them and final punishment was imposed (see Quran 9:5). Abu Bakr (rta) fought against the rejectors of Zakat under this very principle.
