    AOA,

I hope you all are doing well.

I have a concern regarding Backbiting or Gheebat. Let’s take an example of corporate environment. Let’s say if a person A is a victim of the wrath of a another person B. Person B is the authority and is getting personal with the person A, enforcing baseless rules and restrictions on person A out of his power and ego. Now, if the victim tells his or her experience to his/her closed ones or even general people that what he or she is going through or what the person B is doing with him / her then will this be counted as Backbiting / Gheebat of the person B in Islam?

Backbiting is to defame someone. To share one’s miseries or asking help from others to avoid the wrongs of someone in authority is not called backbiting. However, if one does it just to defame his boss, who is not wrong actually, or for sake of gossip it is backbiting. Your conscience should decide it for you.
