  • Sitting In Company Of Disbeliever Haram?

He has already revealed to you in the Book that when you hear Allah’s revelations being denied or ridiculed, then do not sit in that company unless they engage in a different topic, or else you will be like them. Surely Allah will gather the hypocrites and disbelievers all together in Hell. Surah Nisa 140

In this God orders not to sit with the one who are disbelieving in our revelations, my question is then should we always leave the place even when others are telling their beliefs or denying the concept of God like atheist do and arguing about it?

If so then would it be Haram to see movies or listen to songs that contain polytheistic elements even if you don’t agree with it?

Like there is a song having lyrics “you are the only God in my universe” for the other person… Even if I don’t agree with it would it be a sin on me to like the melody and the rhythm of song or the movie as a whole?

Another question of mine is that you listen to songs of a certain artist turns out that they are a disgusting person in real life or they disrespected God or prophet….. Will it be Haram for me to still listen to their songs? What if I use a platform that doesn’t give them the streams?

    Please explain each example
Or if someone says such comments like “how would God do it when I’m the one doing it” (for the person to sit with or not)

The verse is about the disbelievers who were not arguing but ridiculing God’s message. If one doesn’t feel bad and keep sitting with them it is not acceptable. In the case of atheists, if they argue you can argue with them. However if they ridicule Ans make fun of religions then you should leave.

This not the case either watching movies having polytheistic scenes. One just watch it the way one watch temples on the way.

The songs having polytheistic themes should not be listened to. However poetic licence given concession to use polythestic expression to some extent. One refined taste in poetry decides here. No hard and fast rules can be applied here.

The person and his works are two different things. If his work is ok it makes no difference what he does in his personal life.

But the word “disbelieving” is used to in the verse so if they are giving their views about god they are basically disbelieving right? Then what about it

Also please explain the poetic license thing you said

And you said that one watches movie like they watch temples one can argue that one listens to songs having polytheistic themes as they listen to people talking about their polytheistic beliefs

And for the person and his work you said that if someone ridiculed religion and someone keeps on sitting with them and don’t feel bad about it it is not acceptable similar in this case if the person disrespected religion you continue to listen to them wouldn’t one feel bad in this case too? Would it be acceptable that they keep on consuming their art despite the disrespect?

Arguing is what is required in the preaching of religion. It is not a bad thing to avoid. This is disbelief, but it does not create the situation that the Quran refers to avid. We are obliged to avoid a situation where God and His message are ridiculed.

Watching temple is something else, and sharing the company of the people who are ridiculing God is nothing thing. One needs to avoid such a company.

And what about listening to a piece of art created by a person who disrespect God? You said both (his work and person) are different…. My question was that just like one feels bad sitting in the company of such a person shouldn’t one feel bad admiring their art? What’s your point on it
