Assalamu alaikum, respected Sir. I’m a new immigrant to Canada and I’m confused about halal food options here. I’d appreciate your clarification on the following:

    1. Is it permissible to eat chicken, beef, or fish from restaurants like McDonald’s, KFC, or local eateries? Specifically, I’m concerned about the zabiha (slaughtering) process.

    2. Some Muslims advise against eating at restaurants even if they claim to serve halal food, citing the risk of cross-contamination with pork or non-halal items. Is this a legitimate concern?

    3. Can we rely on the concept of “Ahl al-Kitab” (People of the Book) to assume that food from non-Muslim restaurants is halal, or do we need to verify the halal status explicitly?

    4. What about halal-certified products? Are they trustworthy, or should we be cautious due to concerns about machine slaughter vs. hand slaughter?

    5. Lastly, I’ve noticed some Muslims avoiding certain snacks, chocolates, candies, bakery items, and other products due to ingredients like gelatin, animal enzymes,L-cysteine, refined sugar, carmine, ethanol, and others. Could you please provide guidance on these specific ingredients and their halal status?

Jazak Allahu khairan for your time and clarification.

Machine slaughter is halal if the name of God is pronounced by a Muslim or the People of Book.

The food tageged as halal should be considered halal.

Gelatin is a transformation into a new substamce therefore it is halal.

If the people of book pronounce the name of God before slaughtering their zabiha is halal.
