  • Were Adam And Even Physically Present In The Eden?

Posted by Shahzad Hasan on March 26, 2025 at 8:36 pm

The question pops into my mind whether the being of Adam and Eve was physical or spiritual in Eden. In Surah Sajdah it is mentioned that the spirit was embedded into the chosen evolved human that was Adam. There are multiple times that it mentioned “rooh phoonk di gayi” so was it the conscious spirit that was in Eden or was it a physical phenomenon?

The incidents happen to Adam didnl not take place on the heaven but on this very earth.

Rooh is the command of Allah

    امر ربی

As God terms it in the Qur’an,

which made Adam a human with consciousness.

    It was all physical.

Respected Sir! But in Tadbbur e Quran, it says that “rooh being amr e rabbi it means ‘wahi e ilahi’ not the soul that is breathed into humans.

It is a comprehensive word that includes revelation, too. I quote Ghamidi Saheb. He write under verse 17: 85

215 It is evident from the context that the word rūḥ is used to connote “divine revelation.” The essence of the things which emanate from God are described in the Qur’ān by this word. It can be said that it is the command of God which at times takes the form of a word and at others the form of a spirit. Gabriel is also its manifestation. For precisely this reason, he is called Rūḥ al-Qudus or al-Rūḥ. When the Qur’ān stated that God had revealed His spirit to Muḥammad (sws) as in verse 52 of Sūrah Shūrā or at some other instances, the disbelievers made fun of this and mockingly asked him what the rūḥ revealed to him was. It is this question which the Qur’ān has referred to here.
