  • Is Tuna Fish Halal Or A Beastly Fish ?

Posted by Saba Bilal on March 30, 2025 at 3:21 am

I understand shark is haram because it is a carnivore however most fish kind of eat smaller fish and I’m finding it hard to determine whether they are beastly in nature or not.

Both catfish and tuna ( tuna being very widely consumed ) are technically predators I believe.Even whales are toothed and eat squids ands other fish.

    Could someone clarify ?

The word predator doesn’t not qualify an animals to be a beast. For example, shark is a beast but not the whale.

It is the manner of chomping and tearing apart the flesh, which makes an animal a beast.

This principle will help you judge a predator is a beast or not.

So after some research catfish definitely isn’t a beast ( bottom feeder)

Tuna is very confusing – it is a skilled predator itself apparently but it is hunted by sharks ( protects itself against them by joining dolphins ). It is widely commercially “fished for” which implies to me that they aren’t beastly but please if someone has a better understanding than me please do tell as it is one of the more commonly advertised canned halal products.
