On the authority of Ibn Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) who said:

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “It is not permissible to spill the blood of a Muslim except in three [instances]: the married person who commits adultery, a life for a life, and the one who forsakes his religion and separates from the community.” [Al-Bukhari] [Muslim]

    My questions regarding this hadith:

    1. Is this hadith authentic?

    2. How would it be interpreted ? What is it’s context?

This is authentic. The points mentioned in it have been discussed in detail by Ghamidi Saheb and his associates. The married Zani was supposed to be killed, not because he is married, but because he was a culprit of fasad fi alard. His marriage made his case worse in the time of the prophet because he had done itmam e Hujjah on his people.

The punishment for the deniers of the prophet among the polytheists after Itmam e Hujjah was death. Those who accepted Islam and then reverted from it committed the same kufr, so the death penalty was announced for them. It does not apply to ex-Muslims, whose kufr is not known or confirmed, as it is only God who can tell who is actually kafir (denying delibetarly after realizing the truth)

Thank you for the answer. From this explanation what I understand is that this Hadith is a guideline for the time of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

No more applicable because the itmam-e-hujjat was done at that time but not possible afterwards.

    وَالتَّارِكُ لِدِينِهِ الْمُفَارِقُ لِلْجَمَاعَةِ: same as above.

وَالنَّفْسُ بِالنَّفْسِ: still applies because it is a crime according to Quran.

    Is my understanding correct?
