Is Concerts /Music Profession Halal?
Assalamualaikum. Hope all of you are well by the grace of Almighty Allah (subhanahu wa ta’ala). My name is Asif khan.I am 18 years old.I am a college student. As a muslim,i am performing my duties(salah, saum) carefully and dedicatedly.I, with my family, try heart and soul,to maintain and obey all the directions of Allah(subhanahu wa ta’ala) and Prophet Mohammed (sallallahu alaiehi wa sallam)[peace be upon him].I am always trying to keep myself free from worse and worst sins and bad activities. As a student,i study but then,i, some years started to do music(learning instrument and playing it) as a leisure activity. But day by day,i got better in it and i got a dream to be a professional musician.
Now,I have a concern about it(music). But kindly read thoroughly because it’s about being halal or haram.I researched for so long,i knew the fatwas of Yusuf al qaradawi,Shaykh Jad al haq and many renown scholars who put a conclusion about music being halal. But i found the discussion of Javed ahmed ghamidi sir about music.I have completed the whole 7 hour playlist. Then,i have taken decision according this. But i have some questions yet.
1.First of all,i want to take music as my professional/income source.I usually listen, play rock songs, metal songs. But the matter is, i never even heard a bad, inappropriate rock/metal songs.Though i listen/play rock/metal songs, but i always try to listen and play those songs which have a good message. We all know that every metal song is not bad.I always try to give a good message through my rock/metal songs.I try to inspire, motivate other people.I know that there is also satanic music. But from the very very beginning, i always avoided those beacause i know very well that what i should do or what i should not.And my question is, can i take music as my profession and income through it?
2.And now this is another important topic because i try to consider everything. As we know that the concerts and stage shows have a huge crowd of mixed people. As there is not only Men and Women, there are also children, older peole etc. So,we know there is a mixture of gents and ladies, but there are also little boys and girls, their parents, theirs siblings etc.As our songs never do not contain any adultery /implicit contents, vulger speech or alcohol, will it still be a problem as the crowd is not only by men??
So,it’s also related to the education system, because in most of the countries, the universities, colleges and even schools are combined of girls and boys. So,if any one intents of something bad(Zina),so he/she can easily do that there in his/her school/college /universities because his/her parents and teachers think that they are studying or attending classes, but they are actually taking profit of this and are envolving themselves in haram activities. So,will the whole education system be haram, the college /universities be haram?and the teachers, the others students all are doing haram activity? The teachers whose income are related with this all haram?
3.And it is the last question regarding the 2nd question. We all know that sometimes there are some illiterate, uneducated and wicked people whose intention is to hamper/harm or damage any kind of good event/activity always. For example,if there is a good discussion going on,they try to stop and hamper it.So,as i said, there are some people in the live shows who try to pollute the environment of the overall show. They position themselves in the different parts of crowd(maximum times, at the last end of the crowd/venue,or behind it). They are smoking, taking drugs or alcohol. But we all know that they don’t come to the concert to enjoy live performance / listen to songs, they come to damage / hamper it and to disturb other people who want to get a healthy/peaceful and halal entertainment.Actually, those bad people use the concerts as a place/situation for occurring their bad activities.
I,with my fellow band mates and other musicians, we are always trying to warn those bad people to stay away and stop bad activities in the show and are trying to keep the environment as clean as possible, Will it be my sin(performer’s sin) if anyone present in the concert envolves himself/herself in anything bad intentionally??
