Return Of The Jesus
Hello,
Surah An-Nisa (4:41)
So how will it be when We bring a witness from every faith-community and bring you ˹O Prophet˺ as a witness against yours?
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, The Clear QuranSurah An-Nisa (4:42)
On that Day, those who denied ˹Allah˺ and disobeyed the Messenger will wish they were reduced to dust. And they will never be able to hide anything from Allah.
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, The Clear QuranSurah An-Nisa (4:153)
The People of the Book demand that you ˹O Prophet˺ bring down for them a revelation in writing from heaven. They demanded what is even greater than this from Moses, saying, “Make Allah visible to us!” So a thunderbolt struck them for their wrongdoing. Then they took the calf for worship after receiving clear signs. Still We forgave them for that ˹after their repentance˺ and gave Moses compelling proof.
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, The Clear QuranSurah An-Nisa (4:159)
Yusuf Ali
And there is none of the People of the Book but must believe in him before his death; and on the Day of Judgment he will be a witness against them. From Yusuf Ali to the translation of Sahih International, Abul Ala Maududi, Muhsin Khan, Pickthal, Dr. Ghali, Abdul Haleem, Dr. Mustafa Khattab, and Muhammad Junagarhi, why have all of them translated the verse (4:159) as “believe in him…”? But none has used “it” to indicate that it’s actually about the book (the Quraan), as it has been interpreted in Al Bayan and Tadabbur-E-Quran. What is the literal meaning of the arabic word related to it?
And in the final part of the verse (… and on the Day of Judgment, he will be…), all the translators mentioned above have referred the pronoun to Jesus; on the contrary, Al Bayan and Tadabbur-E-Quran have referred it to the last Prophet Hazrat Muhammad pbuh.
According to the translation of Al Bayan and Tadabbur-E-Quran, the verse 4:159 says,
And there is none of the People of the Book but must believe in it (Quraan) before his (every person of the Book) death; and on the Day of Judgment he (Hazrat Muhammad pbuh) will be a witness against them.
1. If every person will believe in Quraan, what was the purpose behind revealing the verse 4:42? Why has Allah announced punishment for them in many places in Quraan?
2. In verse 4:41, Allah says “… bring YOU as a witness…” (Allah addresses the Prophet as YOU)
And as far as I have understood ( kindly correct me if I am wrong), Al Bayan and Tadabbur-E-Quran has made verse 4:153 as basis for referring the final pronoun “HE” to Hazrat Muhammad pbuh, then why didn’t Allah addresses the Prophet as YOU instead of HE in the verse 4:159?Thank you.
