    Hello,

    Surah An-Nisa (4:41)

So how will it be when We bring a witness from every faith-community and bring you ˹O Prophet˺ as a witness against yours?
    — Dr. Mustafa Khattab, The Clear Quran

    Surah An-Nisa (4:42)

On that Day, those who denied ˹Allah˺ and disobeyed the Messenger will wish they were reduced to dust. And they will never be able to hide anything from Allah.
    — Dr. Mustafa Khattab, The Clear Quran

    Surah An-Nisa (4:153)

The People of the Book demand that you ˹O Prophet˺ bring down for them a revelation in writing from heaven. They demanded what is even greater than this from Moses, saying, “Make Allah visible to us!” So a thunderbolt struck them for their wrongdoing. Then they took the calf for worship after receiving clear signs. Still We forgave them for that ˹after their repentance˺ and gave Moses compelling proof.
    — Dr. Mustafa Khattab, The Clear Quran

    Surah An-Nisa (4:159)

    Yusuf Ali
And there is none of the People of the Book but must believe in him before his death; and on the Day of Judgment he will be a witness against them.

From Yusuf Ali to the translation of Sahih International, Abul Ala Maududi, Muhsin Khan, Pickthal, Dr. Ghali, Abdul Haleem, Dr. Mustafa Khattab, and Muhammad Junagarhi, why have all of them translated the verse (4:159) as “believe in him…”? But none has used “it” to indicate that it’s actually about the book (the Quraan), as it has been interpreted in Al Bayan and Tadabbur-E-Quran. What is the literal meaning of the arabic word related to it?

And in the final part of the verse (… and on the Day of Judgment, he will be…), all the translators mentioned above have referred the pronoun to Jesus; on the contrary, Al Bayan and Tadabbur-E-Quran have referred it to the last Prophet Hazrat Muhammad pbuh.

According to the translation of Al Bayan and Tadabbur-E-Quran, the verse 4:159 says,

And there is none of the People of the Book but must believe in it (Quraan) before his (every person of the Book) death; and on the Day of Judgment he (Hazrat Muhammad pbuh) will be a witness against them.

    1. If every person will believe in Quraan, what was the purpose behind revealing the verse 4:42? Why has Allah announced punishment for them in many places in Quraan?

    2. In verse 4:41, Allah says “… bring YOU as a witness…” (Allah addresses the Prophet as YOU)
And as far as I have understood ( kindly correct me if I am wrong), Al Bayan and Tadabbur-E-Quran has made verse 4:153 as basis for referring the final pronoun “HE” to Hazrat Muhammad pbuh, then why didn’t Allah addresses the Prophet as YOU instead of HE in the verse 4:159?

    Thank you.

It is about the people of the book who were there in the time of the proohet, on whom the prophet competed the Hujjah. They were left with no excuse to deny the truth of the Qur’an. It would be they who would confess at their dedht they believe in Qur’an.

Their faith is not accepted because faith and repentance at the last hour is not acceptable.

In the Qur’an the shift of pronouns from first preson to second and third is its style. You can find abundant examples of it in the Qur’an.

      Thank you Dr. Irfan Shahzad.

Acha yahan jo mujhe ek confusion hai, baraye mehrbani usko khatam karne me ap ki madad darkaar hai.

Ab oopar jo contextually baat ho rahi hai k ahl e kitaab walon ne acha rawaiyya nahi rakha kisi Nabi k sath, pichli sari aayaat me Allah ne humare Nabi ko “AAP ya AAP KI” keh k direct mukhatib farmaya hai. Lekin aakhri aayat me “YE ya WO” istemal kiya hai, jis se pichli baat ko is baat se milane me confusion peda ho rahi hai.

Baraye mehrbani is pe zara roshni daaliye, agar ho sakay to kuch examples k sath.

      Jazakallah.

      @Quraishi

Quraan kese gawahi de sakta hai? Kia ap kisi or aayat ka hawala de sakte hain is mutaliq?

Q k Tadabbur-E-Quran by Maulana Amin Ahsan Islahi ka jaiza lene se mujhe ye samjh aaya hai k yahan “YE” humare Nabi ki taraf ishara kar raha hai.

Gawahi dene k liye to Nabi hote hain jo har kom k representative hote hain mere ilm k mutabik. To baraye mehrbani is ko zara wazih kijiye.
