Narrated Aisha, Ummul Mu’minin:
Dawud ibn Salih ibn Dinar at-Tammar quoted his mother as saying that her mistress sent her with some pudding (harisah) to Aisha who was offering prayer. She made a sign to me to place it down. A cat came and ate some of it, but when Aisha finished her prayer, she ate from the place where the cat had eaten. She stated: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: It is not unclean: it is one of those who go round among you. She added: I saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) performing ablution from the water left over by the cat. (Sunnah.com)Jami` at-Tirmidhi 91
Abu Hurairah narrated that :
the Prophet said: “Wash the vessel the dog has drunk from seven times: the first or the last of them with dirt. And when the cat drinks out of it, wash it once.” (Sunnah.com)Aren’t performing ablution from water drunk by cats and having food eaten by cats two different things? Scientifically, cat has many impurities. And, if cat is 100% pure then what was the purpose behind giving instructions to CLEAN a vessel ONCE after a cat drinks from it? Does it mean it is completely healthy or ok to eat food leftover by cats?

These are not a religious instructions. They belong to hygiene and cleanliness. If the reports are correct, the difference is based on the common observation that cats as compared to dogs are less involved in eating dirty things, or the cat Hazrat Ayesha saw might be pet.
according to the Prophet’s observation he decided that the water was not unclean because the cat which licked it might not be unclean.
If one believes that stray cats are as unclean as stray dogs one should abstaik from consuming and using the water they licked.
