It is reported in historical accounts that some people kissed Prophet Muhammad’s hands and feet. Is it allowed in Islam to kiss pious people’s feet?

It is not disallowed. However, the companions did not do that; some Jews are reported to have kissed the hands and feet of the prophet. Anyways, one should not bow down on the ground to kiss someone’s feet. It resembles Sajda, which is forbidden.

But a counterargument is being posed that when the Prophet did not disallow it, and if we want to do the same, should we ask the people to raise their feet so we could kiss them? -
One should not do that. It creates Takabbur in people and is unnecessary humiliation for the kisser.
