I heard an opinion that watching videos that might have people doing something which is considered sinful or haram is not allowed. Is this true? I’m not talking about watching indecent acts or something like that, for example you are watching a video in which a person tells a lie or drinks alcohol are you sinful for watching that person do a sin likewise by the logic of the above opinion even watching a person bacon would be haram since he is also eating what has been forbidden. Is this opinion really correct, since it seems a bit excessive to me since your not the one doing the sin how can you be sinful.A Hadith comes to mind supporting the opinion above

“Whoever among you sees an evil, let him change it with his hand; if he is not able to do so, then with his tongue; and if he is not able to do so, then with his heart — and that is the weakest of faith.”

    (Sahih Muslim, Hadith 49)

Thank you for the help I now understand the Hadith stated above but I’m still confused about my initial question as in the discussion provided it talks about a situation where a person is capable to change what the other is doing wrong and what I’m asking is a bit different to that. Could @Irfan76 please comment on this issue as he has answered many of my questions before.

When an act of sin in a movie doesn’t happen actually like the scenes of murdering or drinking alcohol, it is not sinful to watch them. The actual act doesn’t happen.

In the cases of sex or intimacy, the acts of sin is actually happening. Therefore one needs to avoid them.

In the case of polytheistic scenes, watching them is not a sin because one doesn’t agree with it or take pleasure in it. One may appreciate the craft which is a separate thing, even though associated with a polytheistic entity. For example You can appreciate the beauty of a temple or idol or statue. It doesn’t amount to shirk.
