Question About Muwatta Imam Malik
Assalamualaikum. I want to know where does it is mentioned in Muwatta Imam Malik that he saw people of madina did not do rafa yadain in salah. Which page no or section or topic it is mentioned. I heard from someone about it and want to get clarification. Kindly provide the reference JazakAllah khair

This is not mentioned in muwatta. Imam Malik himself used to do rafa yadain. It is narrated from him by his following students:
1)Ismail bin abi awais (in Jami Tirmzi)
2)Ma’an bin isa qazzaz(in Jami Tirmzi)
3)Ibn Wahb
4)Abu Musab Zuhri.
The idea of imam Malik not doing rafa yadain was popularized by a judge of Tunisia named Asad ibn Furat. He wrote the book “Al Mudawanah tul Qubra” and attributed it to imam Malik. Today Malikis donot do rafa yadain based on this book.
But these types of matters(Rafa yadain) are not that important so no harsh or strict stance should be taken on this matter.

محترم امام مالک کا مشہو ر مذہب ترک رفع الیدین ہی ہے، جیسا کہ المدونہ میں منقول ہے۔
اسی بات کی صراحت اکابر مالکی فقہاء کرتے آئے ہیں، ابن عبد البر ، صاحب بدایۃالمجتہد، شرح الکبیر کے مصنف اور بھی سینکڑوں مالکی فقہ کی کتب میں یہ بات موجود ہے۔
رہی بات کہ امام مالک موطا میں رفع الیدین کی روایت لائے ہیں تو عرض ہے کہ امام مالک کا یہ معمول بہت ساری احادیث میں رہا ہے کہ وہ نہ صرف عمل اہل مدینہ بلکہ بعض جگہ قیاس صحیح کی مخالفت کی بنیاد پر روایات کو تر ک کرتے ہیں۔
