    Asalam u alaikum,

My father visited me in the United Kingdom for several months and provided me with a sum of money to cover the expenses I was incurring for him. He was a self-made individual and always endeavoured to manage his own financial affairs.

The amount he gave me was not precisely sufficient to cover all of his expenses, but it served as a token of appreciation for my efforts in taking care of him. These expenses included the purchase of hearing aids, which I secured on finance, as well as his visa application, medical consultations, mobile phone, and other related expenses.

Regrettably, my father passed away recently. Consequently, I intend to withdraw his visa application and explore the possibility of selling his hearing aids.

In this context, I am seeking clarification regarding the amount he entrusted to me during his lifetime. Am I still permitted to retain this sum, even though some of the expenses incurred, such as the visa application and the hearing aids, may be eligible for reimbursement?

Alternatively, does this amount now constitute a component of his inheritance?

The remaining amount after calculating the expenses must be counted as his inheritance.

    Asalam u alaikum,

JazakaAllah for responding. Now with regards to calculating the expenses, I have a question.

My father had a 5 year visit visa for uk and stayed here for few months from April 24 till aug 24 and then from sep 24 till march 25.

We were looking to apply for a permanent visa for him due to the situation that no one was in Pakistan to take care of him as he was in no condition to live in his own due to his age and physical health.

One of the conditions of his visa application was that he wasn’t allowed to leave UK until his visa application was decided as he wouldn’t have his passport. Now this application was being made On humanitarian basis so it could take any time between a year or more.

My father had some business in Pakistan which he had to attend so he decided to go to Pakistan to settle that before we apply for permanent visa. We were advised by the solicitor that he shouldn’t travel on his own as the whole basis of his application was that he couldn’t take care of himself and he needs constant care so someone should travel with him. And Infact was the situation in reality as well was that as he was suffering from DVT at the time and had issues walking etc

So for this particular reason my wife travelled with him.

So the question is can I also deduct my wife’s travel expenses from the money my father gave me? Due to the fact that she only travelled to take care of my father during the travelling and also to satisfy the home office with regards to my fathers visa application?
