Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullah,I have a question regarding the concept of shahadah (martyrdom) in Islam, and I would be grateful for your guidance.
In Islamic teachings, martyrdom is defined as giving one’s life in the path of Allah — for the sake of His religion, justice, and truth. But in today’s world, wars are usually fought between countries, and soldiers fight to defend their nation or land.
    My question is:
If a Muslim soldier dies while defending his country, and a non-Muslim (e.g., Christian or Hindu) also dies defending his country — both having given their lives for their homeland — why is the Muslim considered a shaheed (martyr) while the non-Muslim is not?
Is giving one’s life for the country the same as giving it in the path of Allah?

We need to learn what our religion calls shahadah regardless of what people say today.

According to Islam war against zulm and Udwaan ( atrocities, persecution) is jihad and one who dies in it is a martyr. Dying for glory or nationalism isn’t a martyrdom.
