God'S Omniscience And Free Will
Posted by ahmad arif on May 27, 2025 at 11:59 amGod knows everything. Can he tell a boy what he will eat tomorrow and will that boy be able to not eat that thing and choose otherwise?

God announced his fate and that meant that Abu Lahab won’t accept islam and be a devoted muslim.

Just like he restricted the free will of Abu lahab to prove his verse right???

Scholar May 30, 2025 at 12:07 pmAbu Lahab chose a path for himself. God announced the end of his actions if he continued. It is not that since God announced it thefore he has to meet that fate. Take the example of the children of Israel. They were cursed by God. It is declared that they would never follow the prophet. Still they were asked if they fulfill the terms of the covenant of God, He will fulfil His terms for them. Abu Lahab could have turned around but he chose to carry on.

If i will tell any severely handicapped person that bring this bottle to me…
You will say he can not do that!
Why….its because you know that his condition is like that …
And you are not restricting him to do that…
Similarly if God says he will not choose right path….it will not mean God resticted him to choose true path…rather it means God has knowledge of future, but he is not forcing him to do that.

Scholar June 1, 2025 at 2:40 amThe announcement of punishment is not like a normal prediction. It is not about knowledge of God but his declaration that he would punish him for what he was doing. It was conditional like the punishment of the Jews.
At many places in the Qur’an, God tells that the polytheists of Makkah won’t believe until they see the azab of God. But many ultimately embraced Islam.
The difference between threat, announcement of punishment and prediction should be taken into account.

Member May 31, 2025 at 4:14 amIt’s impossible for a severely handicapped person go bring you a bottle. He can’t have free will in impossible things. He just can’t do the impossible. His free will is already restricted. You don’t have a free will to become an angel.
Similarly It was impossible for abulahab to accept islam and be a devoted muslim because it would prove God wrong.
Proving God wrong is impossible and any act which proves God wrong also becomes Impossible.

free will doesnt mean the ability to do the impossible (like becoming an angel), but rather the freedom to choose among the possibilities available to us.
as for abu lahab its not that he couldnt accept islam its that god knowing all time knew he wouldnt the fact that god declared his fate doesnt negate his free will it reflects divine foreknowledge not compulsion. js as a teacher might know a student will fail bc of their consistent choices that doesnt mean the student wasnt free to study harder and pass.
gods knowledge of the future doesnt restrict our choices it js means he knows how we will use the free will we have been given.
