  • Reincarnation And The Varified Case Of Shanti Devi

In 1926, a little girl named Shanti Devi was born in Delhi, India. She was an ordinary child until, around the age of four, she began saying things that startled her parents. She claimed that her real home wasn’t in Delhi but in a town called Mathura. She insisted she was once a woman named Lugdi Devi, who had died shortly after giving birth.

As she grew older, her memories became more detailed. She described her house in Mathura, her husband’s name—Kedar Nath—and even small details like the color of their home, what clothes she wore, and the food she used to eat. She spoke in a local dialect unfamiliar to her family and remembered specific temples and shops.

Word of Shanti’s story spread, and her teachers and neighbors became curious. Eventually, a letter was sent to this Kedar Nath in Mathura. To everyone’s amazement, he existed—and his wife Lugdi Devi had indeed died about a year before Shanti was born.

Kedar Nath came to Delhi pretending to be someone else, but Shanti immediately recognized him—and even his cousin. She reminded him of things only he and Lugdi Devi had shared in private. Intrigued and a little shaken, Kedar Nath confirmed that her memories were astonishingly accurate.

The case caught national attention. In 1936, Mahatma Gandhi formed a committee of 15 members, including lawyers and journalists, to investigate. They took Shanti to Mathura.

There, the young girl calmly navigated the unfamiliar town as if she’d lived there. She recognized her former home, knew hidden areas of the house, and identified her past-life son. People were stunned.

After their detailed investigation, the committee concluded that Shanti Devi’s memories could not be explained by normal means. Her story remains one of the most well-documented and intriguing cases of reincarnation in modern India.

My Question is if reincarnation is rejected by Islam, what abot this case. It is not that a girl tamed the metaphysical knowledge at 4.
