Member July 6, 2025 at 2:29 amMy question is related to the offering of prayers as In many parts of the world people pray five times prayers but at three times by combining them. The spirit of the prayer as mentioned is Quran is remembrance of Allah. If remembrance is required at five different times then how it can be done at three times without any uzar. If the five timings are explicitly mentioned then we should do it five times. If three timings are ordered then why this five times prayers have come up.

Moderator July 7, 2025 at 8:34 pmPrayer was always offered five times a day. The names of the prayers themselves suggest their times i.e. the names of Salah are based on relative positions of the sun. No one disputes that. However Ahl-e-Tashih community, by combining zuhr with asr and maghrib with isha on the principle of jam bayna al-salatayn (combining two prayers), they have practically made these four into two and if we add fajr to them, the total number of prayers will come out to be three. We find no basis of this in Quran and Sunnah without any Uzar. (i.e. unusual difficulty).
Please watch to understand History & Background of Combining Prayers:

As stated earlier, The names of the prayers themselves suggest their times i.e. the names of Salah are based on relative positions of the sun. This is an established fact.

Member July 7, 2025 at 11:35 pmThere are many verses but I am sharing this and I can if you need more but there is no mention of five different times for prayers. I agree with five times prayers and in my opinion it’s the best way. But Allah knows best we believe. If Quran mentions three then how five times? I am unable to attach files. It’s Surah Hud ayah 114.

Moderator July 9, 2025 at 6:14 pmNo where in Quran it is mentioned explicitly that Prayers are three or five or that we Muslims should offer three prayers only or five prayers at three occasions/time periods (whether they be three or five).
As stated earlier, the names of Salah are based on their times and each time is different from the other. This in itself is enough of a proof as far as five different Salah at five distinct times is concerned.
The history of the prayer is as old as religion itself. Prophet Muhammad (sws) also followed the same practice and instituted Salah as a perpetual Sunnah (received via Ijma & Tawatur). All the details regarding Salah are derived from perpetual Sunnah. Quran mentions prayers as passing reference to remind muslims of the importance of Prayers, and sometimes to emphasize on one or more specific times of day for steadfastness against hostile enemy of that time. Quran never mentioned the number of Salah, the times of Salah and the method to offer Salah, because all of the that had already been practiced by Muslims when Prophet Muhammad (sws) instituted Salah.
The verse (Quran 11:114) quoted by you is again a passing reference where three distinct periods are mentioned and Prophet (sws) has been asked to be diligent about these prayers. Similarly, in Quran 2:238, Muslims are asked to be diligent about all prayers and specially the middle Salah. Quran 24:58 mentions Salah of Isha specifically and keeping in mind the context why it is mentioned, such a reference was redundant if Maghrib and Isha had already been offered earlier at Maghrib time, and if Maghrib is offered later with Isha, then both prayers should have been mentioned, or at least this this fact should have been mentioned in Quran.
Verses that clearly remind Muslims to offer Prayer at more than three times/occasions/periods of Prayers:
Quran 17:78 comprehensively covers all five Salah times (https://www.javedahmedghamidi.org/#!/quran?chapter=17¶graph=25&type=Ghamidi).
Quran 20:130 (https://www.javedahmedghamidi.org/#!/quran?chapter=20¶graph=31&type=Ghamidi) &
Quran 30:17-18 (https://www.javedahmedghamidi.org/#!/quran?chapter=30¶graph=1&type=Ghamidi#fn_111)
make a reference to all the five prayers in very clear terms (clearly more than three as far as Ahl-e-Tashih’s logic is concerned).
