A kalam in clear language is one thing, and its understanding/interpretation is another. It is likely that humans may commit mistake in understanding a problem written in a clear language. This happens in every field of knowledge.
Inheritance distribution can have numerous application scenarios, each different from the other. Whatever distribution problems people faced during the time of Prophet Muhammad (sws), the Prophet (sws) was there to guide them. Therefore, no major issues arose during that time. After demise of Prophet Muhammad (sws), new distribution scenarios came into light which lead to prominent Sahaba differing on the application of the law of inheritance in those specific scenarios. Two major issues i.e. Aul (Aol) and that of Qazia-e-Hamariya are attributed to Hazrat Umar (rta); and Abdullah Ibn-e-Abbas (rta) is reported to have criticized him for Aul. Since he was younger as compared to his Umar (rta) and not in leadership position, his opinion was not widely followed. Ahl-e-Tashih although follow the opinion of Abdullah Ibn-e-Abbas (rta).
Sahaba sometimes differed with each other on the understanding of a verse or problem. Such examples are found in the literature of tafsir of Quran.
