I want to ask a question about a casual challenge involving money.
Suppose two friends say:“I bet you can’t speak my language. If you do, I’ll give you 1000 rupees. If you can’t, you’ll give me 1000 rupees.”
This is said jokingly or as a challenge, but both are agreeing to give money depending on the result.
Is this kind of challenge considered gambling (qimaar) in Islam? And is it haram even if both agree and do it playfully, not habitually or for serious profit?

If person A were to pay Person B for his skill in language speaking then it is not gambling. However, person B paying person A for his failure to not speak a particular language, this two way transaction makes it Gambling. Here, chance is being played as a game where one party is bound to lose money, hence prohibited.

We cannot take others wealth just out of fun, when there is no ethical basis for it.
