The Qur’an has cleary described the criteria of forgiveness.
Avoid major sins, the minor sins will be forgiven.
If you have committed a major sin in a rush if emotions, repent immediately, and compensate if you hurt someone as much as possible, God will forgive you.
If you delay the repentance but do it before death, you may hope that God would forgive you.
