Confusionnabout Hijab Verse In Surah Ahzab
I want to ask something. I was watching Ghamidi Sahab’s series of 23 questions on purdah. He explained the background of Surah al-Ahzab and said that people were told to ask the Prophet’s wives for things from behind a curtain (ḥijāb). But what I don’t understand is this: in 33:53, Allah says “O you who believe, do not enter the house of the Prophet without invitation”. My confusion is: why did Allah say “O believers” and not “O people”, which would also include the munafiqeen, since they were also present in that context?
Also, I don’t fully understand this ayah because believers too were not safe from temptation—they could also think of marrying the Prophet’s wives. From this, it feels like the lesson is that even believers need protection from temptation, and therefore all women should take such precautions. This is what I also heard from Dr. Israr in his lecture.
Then in the next ayah, 33:59, Allah says believing women should cover themselves so they are recognized and not harassed. But in 33:58, it is mentioned that believing men and women both faced slander. My question is: why were only women asked to take precautions and be identified separately, while men were not given any visible precaution?
Please clarify this for me.
