  • Iddat In Case Of A Divorced Couple Separated For Over One Year

    Assalam O Alaikum

If a husband and wife have been separated for around 1 year with not intimate relationship between them and they want to divorce will the procedure be the same? Meaning will they have to observe 90 day iddah living in the same house? If iddah is not required, can it still be observed by the lady if she thinks it can help resolve the differences?

Iddat in that case is not required because Iddat is to ensure whether the woman is pregnant or not. However, the current legal system requires it. Further, if she wants to observe it, she can do it.
